How to Update Your DNS to Point Your Domain to RentMy

September 19th, 2025 by

To make your RentMy shop visible at your own web address (like www.yourshop.com), you’ll need to update something called a DNS record with your domain registrar (the company where you bought your domain, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, or others).

Don’t worry—you don’t need to be technical. Just follow the steps below.

Step 1: Log in to Your Domain Registrar

  1. Go to the website where you registered your domain name.
  2. Log in to your account.
  3. Find the section called DNS Settings or Manage DNS.
    • Sometimes it’s also called Zone File or Name Server Management.

Step 2: Locate the A Records

DNS records are like instructions that tell the internet where to send people when they type in your domain.

  • Look for records called A Records.
  • You may see entries for @ (your main domain, like yourshop.com) and www (your subdomain, like www.yourshop.com).

Step 3: Update the “www” Record

  1. Find the A Record with the Host/Name set to www.
  2. Change the Value/Points to field to:
3.141.141.45
  1. Save your changes.

This tells visitors who type www.yourshop.com to go to your RentMy shop.

Step 4 (Optional): Point Your Main Domain as Well

If you want customers to reach your shop when they type just yourshop.com (without the “www”), you can also update the A Record for the @ host:

  1. Find the A Record with Host/Name set to @.
  2. Change the Value/Points to field to:
3.141.141.45
  1. Save your changes.

Step 5: Wait for DNS to Update

  • DNS changes don’t happen instantly.
  • It may take up to 24 hours for your updates to fully work worldwide (often much faster).

Step 6: Test Your Domain

After a little time has passed:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Type in www.yourshop.com.
  3. You should see your RentMy shop! 🎉

Need Help?

If you get stuck, don’t worry. Your domain registrar’s support team can usually help walk you through updating your DNS records. Just tell them:

“I need to update my A Record for www (and optionally @) to point to 3.141.141.45.”

They’ll know what to do.

👉 Tip: Once you’ve made these changes, your RentMy shop will always be available at your custom domain.
